As I mentioned in my blog – Bible in One Year – I listen to some of the Bible each day. Some days things jump out at me and other days I don’t really connect with what is being said. I know that the things that jump out at me are things that I need to listen to and take note of, or they are messages from God 🙂
Last night I was talking to my good friend and telling her that I don’t think I could ever enter into a conversation about God with people because I am so unsure of my knowledge. Mind you, I have in-depth conversations with her about it all the time 🙂
I love God, love learning about God and so totally want to share my thoughts, ideas and learnings with everyone (hence this website), but to have an actual conversation and answer people’s questions really frightens me… 😞 What happens if they ask something I can not answer?
Then this morning, while listening to my Bible in One Year, Reverend Gumbel talked about his fear when he first ran a conference to 1000 of his peers. The scripture he spoke about really resonated with me…
I CORINTHIANS 2
Christ Crucified
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
I get so nervous when people engage me in conversations about God, Jesus, the Bible. I doubt myself and my knowledge all the time. When I am writing my blogs, I close my eyes and ask God to tell me what to write about and the words just flow, I never question, doubt or fear the content of my blogs, I always trust that God has my back.
I had an early morning meeting this morning so I couldn’t do anything with the thoughts that were flowing through my mind. But as soon as I finished the meeting I went online to Bible.com, looked up the scripture and read the whole of 1 Corinthians 2… and boy oh boy, is it a powerful chapter, I connected with it all 🙂 (see the rest below)
So from my learnings this morning I have received the message that it is ok to feel as I feel, nervous, full of self-doubt etc. But when people want to engage me in conversation about my faith, I need to trust in God, and know that it is ok to have fear and weakness and trembling 🙂
I will remember this message every time I enter a conversation I am unsure of or when I am training 100 business owners or whatever my circumstances may be 🙂
Life is amazing and I love receiving these messages 🙂 I really just wanted to share this with you 🙂 Is there a message that you have received that has made your day recently?
Spiritual Wisdom
6 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, 8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 16 For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
