I first came across the concept of reading the Bible in one year quite a while ago. A blogger that I used to follow did a blog and a podcast around it. The idea fascinated me, but I never did anything about it.
Then at the beginning of 2018, I decided that I would give it a go. I downloaded the book that the blogger mentioned and off I went… The book gives you readings from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs every day.
It had a section for every day of the year, so whatever day you happened to start the reading on, that was the day you turned to in the book. I happened to decide to start reading on the 1st of January, so that made things easy as it was at the beginning of the book.
And that is where it all went downhill from there. Unfortunately, the book didn’t come as an audiobook, so I had to actually read it (*gasp*). And it had no commentary, so for someone like me who didn’t really understand the Bible and hadn’t really begun to Live for God, it made things hard.
I would read the days section, try hard to process it, have a meltdown and message my Pastor (who wasn’t my Pastor at the time, he was just a good friend). I would be like – ‘Oh you have so much explaining to do!!!! Do you realise that the Bible says this???’ Or ‘Explain to me why God did this… !!!!!’…
I’m sure when he got my messages he rolled his eyes several times. 🙂 I am so grateful that God gave me such a kind and understanding Pastor, who puts up with me 🙂
The idea of reading the Bible in one year is a great concept but I feel that it’s probably not something a ‘novice’ should try and achieve 😛 BUT once I have learnt more of the Bible myself, I will be going back to reading it each day.
For now, I use an app called The Bible in One Year and you can find more information about it on my Resources Page.
The book that used to try and achieve the impossible is called the One Year Bible and is produced by Tyndall House Publishers INC. You can download it in different Bible Versions – King James Version (KJV) – New King James Version (NKJV) – New Living Translation (NLT) – New International Version (NIV) – English Standard Version.
It can also be purchased as a paperback or on Kindle. You can find it on Amazon HERE.
